The Costumer's Manifesto: THR 254 BEGINNING COSTUME DESIGN ANDCONSTRUCTION These pages were originally designed for an online version of a Costume Design and Construction Class at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Since I have left UAF and this class is no longer offered, I am leaving these class materials up online for other teachers to use, link to, or print out for their own classes.

'What is [Course Number] Beginning Costume Design and Construction?'

This course was a lower division, undergraduate, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Theatre Department class in beginning costume design and construction. Designed to provide a basic understanding of the processes used to design costumes, and some simple techniques used to make them for theatre, this class also aimed to provide new ideas for wearable artists, crafts workers, and artists who are looking for inspiration. This course was designed to be adaptable for people who may already have experience in sewing, drawing or costuming, so that they can choose their assignments so they learn new things, rather than repeat what they know already.

This course is no longer offered at UAF, but all the former online materials are still publicly accessible by non students wishing to use the text, discussion boards, or images for personal study. Anyone may view the class lectures, take part in class discussions, and do assignments for their own personal entertainment or education. Teachers in face to face classes may also print out multiple individual projects from this class to use as handouts without needing to ask for special permission.

Never mind that, I just want to surf the site for free. Send me back to the

Main Class Page so I can see stuff now!

I'm looking for a short non-credit course in how to make costumes. Where do I find one of those? Try here:
