'What is Expected?


In return for practicum credit, you have the option to choose which area of the theatre you most want to work in - thank you for showing interest in the Scene Shop and Electrics Crew.

Set-up, General, Running Crew

Within the Shop / Electrics Crews, there are three options.

Set-up Means that you work for a specific-show. You try to get all, or the majority of your credit hours working on one specific project. This will offer you the most satisfaction in the way that when it is done, there will most likely be a specific piece which you completed entirely on your own.

General Means that you want to spread your due hours throughout the semester - roughly 4 hours a week. This way you have something to do with everything.

Running Crew Means that you are given a specific responsibility working on a show - Light Board operator, sound op., fly-person, Stage Manager etc. You must be at all specified show calls for that production - regardless of time actually spent. You will get a "contract" outlining your specific duties. Once you serve as a running crew member for a specific job, you can not duplicate the same job for credit, bnut you can serve on a running crew in another capacity.

When doing work for the shop or electrics crews, you should plan to put in at least two hours at once - and should let the supervisor know ASAP if two hours is not possible. Please let the Technical Director (or master Electrician- if applicable) know, in advance, when they can expect you to come in so they can plan to have something for you to do. These hours can not be used for practicum and Stagecraft of Lighting Design hours - they must be kept separate. You are expected to keep a time sheet / record in the shop throughout the semester. If you tell a supervisor you will be in and something interferes, please call and let them know as early as possible so they can arrange the project to be done by someone else.

You must read and follow the posted set of Scene Shop Rules and Regulations. If there are any problems, please see the Technical Director ASAP. Thank You
